Summer at St. Andrews University
Summer at St. Andrews is an affordable and exciting academic program for students from across the country and around the world. Our programs are designed to foster personal development through academic study and shared experience. Our outstanding array of courses is unique. We accept students who are currently in grades 7-11 (rising 8th – 12th graders in summer 2014).
Our program offers three consecutive one-week long sessions. Students can attend any or all of the sessions. Each curriculum is designed as one-week modules, and students can attend multiple sessions and continue through the next level without repetition. All of our classes are project-based and hands-on. Class sizes are small and feature talented and experienced faculty.
During the late afternoons and evenings, we devote ourselves to building friendships through shared experience. We explore the campus, use the recreational facilities, screen movies, host seminars, enjoy fun activities, and always leave plenty of time at the end of the day to relax and socialize with one another.
Our program is divided into Majors and Electives. Three class periods a day will be focused on the students’ major. One class period a day will be devoted to students’ chosen elective.
About St. Andrew’s University
St. Andrews University is located in the Sandhills of North Carolina in the city of Laurinburg. The founders selected the site for the consolidation of two regional institutions due to the Scottish heritage and the high value of education. With a groundbreaking on April 15, 1959, the 600 acres featuring a 70-acre lake are still a central part of the culture of Scotland County.

However, for students who are coming from afar, or are otherwise engaged, we offer airport pickup service from Fayetteville Regional Airport (FAY). This service, operated by professionals, always includes two adults in the van to provide for safety and security. Students are met by summer staff just outside security (for pick-ups) and are taken to the security doors (for drop-off, after checking their bags in with the airline) by our summer staff. Parents are called when pick-up and/or drop-off have been completed. There is a nominal fee for this service, please contact our office for details and arrangements.
About the Facilities
Residence Halls The summer program is designed to enhance the students’ total educational experience by utilizing the residence halls as living and learning environments. Social and educational programming, small group discussions, and personal attention are all common to the education that occurs within the residence halls at St. Andrews. Students will live in doubles, will be grouped and roomed by age, and floors are divided by gender.
Fitness Center Students have access to the athletic center, fitness center and pool. The impressive fitness center was recently modernized and includes a cardio area as well as weight machines. We expect some students will avail themselves of this area, but even more students will swim in our large pool!
Belk Student Center The Main Room is often used for large gatherings of students. The double doors can be opened out onto the verandah overlooking the lake. The area known as “Knight Life” is used for coffeehouses, comedians, movies, club meetings and a place for students to congregate, study, and socialize.
