Summer camp activities
When the academic day is over, our learning and fun continue Beyond The Classroom. From field trips to Event Nights to significant seminars, our program excels at making the entire day part of the experience.
Event Nights and Afternoon Activities
After classes, our students enjoy summer camp activities like exploring the amenities of a premier University campus. Our Resident Assistants organize exciting activities both for the afternoon period before dinner and for the evening and nighttime. Our goal is to integrate leadership activities and public speaking skills into many of our activities. Each student will have the chance to grow and shine, and to develop the confidence and skills that are critical to success in the future.
Evening activities and organized fun are part of the program. Every evening we have an organized group activity, whether it be open mic night at the coffeehouse, movie night, 80s dance night with mocktails, or board games. We also make sure to leave plenty of time to just hang out, as our students request and require time to build and foster friendships with each other by chilling out and talking.
Last summer was full of out of class activities that keep the students entertained and constantly pushing themselves to try new things. One of the favorites is karaoke night. Students and Staff get to show of their vocal skills in a serious and totally silly way!
Bingo, movie night, scavenger hunts around campus and trivia were a great way for us to step up the competition and win some great prizes or a just a relaxing way to spend a night in. Although this is academic camp, its essential to take a break and enjoy the weather with outdoor sports like soccer and use the great gymnasium to play basketball. If sports aren’t your thing, we have a full fitness center to work out in during free time.
Every final Friday night we have a dance, where students get a little dressed up and get to unwind with some music and snacks. It’s a nice way to celebrate the friendships that formed during the week with a little end of the week party complete with mocktails and great memories.
Last summer for summer camp activities, we had a cool Friday Field Trip to the North Carolina Zoo in Raleigh. Our students got to see one of North Carolina’s coolest attractions and spend a beautiful day outside. Each class used this trip in a different way to enhance their class. For example, the Writing class used the animals and their environment as a unique style of writing prompt and wrote some amazing pieces that they later shared at the closing ceremony. The Forensic Science class learned that the zookeepers use many of the same skills the students were learning in order to figure out how different animals get injured or sick. The Vet Science class got to observe animal behavior and spoke to a zookeeper about the different types of emergencies they have treated at the zoo. This was both an educational and fun way to spend the day with their class.
During the weekend between sessions students are welcome to stay over on Saturday night for free. We have the option to camp out at the Equestrian Center with tents and s’mores weather permitting. We also have the opportunity to decorate the Wall on the Causewalk, as each week students get spray paint and they are allowed them to graffiti whatever they want, and leave their mark!
